For those of us who grew up with Allan in Aylmer, one of his most endearing character traits was evident early on:- Allan (hardly ever called this as it was either "Spice" or "The Baker")definitely marched to his own tune! He added a fascinating dimension to all aspects of life, discussions and solutions/approaches to making the world a better place. Regrettably, our paths seldom crossed after Bonnie and I and family moved to Muskoka approximately 20 years ago, but I knew that somewhere he was pro-actively enriching people's lives. He was foremost a family man, and our thoughts and support are with Mary and children.

My condolences to the Spicer family at this difficult time. I am one of hundreds of hockey players that laced them up with Al over his decades stretch of Wednesday afternoons at the Aylmer Arena. It was always a good time when Al was there, sharing his plus/minus after the skate. Off the ice I admired his passion he had for his family, farming, and the many causes he took on. He will be missed.

I have great memories of Allan when we were kids. Allan was in my class at school for many years. Growing up in Aylmer,we lived in the best of times. We were both in the academic university stream and graduated together. I am so sorry to hear that he has left us.He was a little older than me,I will be 72 in July next year. My sympathies and prayers to all of his family.

When we moved 9 years ago from the stoney mountain soil Austrias to the southwestern flats with its fertile soil and very warm climate, Al, introduced by the Loewith family , came into our picture and became our crop consultant. He literally helped us getting our roots into Canadien ground. Not only did we learn a lot about crops, no, there where all kinds of conversations about different subjects like Hockey, Politics and Language at our breakfast table. We always did enjoy his company and expertise.
Thank you Al, you will be in our memories forever.

Eight years ago when this fellow came walking through our door he immediately made us feel welcome. He had so much knowledge and passion for his community it was amazing. Through the years Al was usually our first customer every morning for coffee. Our children got to know Al well and he always took the time to ask them how school was going and what they were up to and he always had some words of encouragement for them. My daughter affectionately started to call Al her "fuzzy teddy bear", which he seemed to really enjoy. She refers to him even today as her very first friend when we moved to Straffordville. While Al and I didn't always agree on world issues we respected each others' views and I always came away from our conversations a bit smarter because he always made me look at things in a different way. I am a better person for knowing him and will truly miss him.

Our condolences to Mary and the kids. Al will be missed by our Saturday night hockey group which he organized for over 40 years. Al loved the fellowship as much as the hockey and certainly contributed to political debates. The Red team certainly won't win as many games without Al! We are going to miss him.
