Obituary of Mary McDowell
McDowell, Mary G. of Aylmer and formerly Calton, passed away peacefully at the Elgin Manor where she had resided for the last year, on Saturday November 12, 2016, in her 97th year. Beloved wife of the late Arnold McDowell(1981). Loving mother of Brian McDowell and wife Pam of Pt. Rowan, Alan McDowell and wife Marianna of Gabriola Island, B.C, and Carl McDowell and wife Marie of Springfield. Also survived by 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a son Clifton Albert McDowell(1944), grandsons David McDowell and Derek McDowell and sisters Ellen Beresford, Irene Beresford, Annabelle Labadie and Kathleen Rock. Mary was born in Chatham on December 18, 1919, the daughter of the late George and Annie (McCarty) Beresford. Mary moved from Chatham to the St.Thomas area where she met and married Arnold, a farmer from the Straffordville/Eden area. She moved from the city to the country and adopted the farm life. Most of her life was spent on a tobacco farm just north of the hamlet of Calton. She became active in the church and social life of the community. After the death of her husband Arnold and her retirement from farming she moved to Aylmer but retained her connection to Calton. She continued to be an active mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend of many people and became involved in a number of organizations over the years. Friends may call at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Wednesday November 16, 2016 from 7-9 pm and on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral. The funeral will be held at H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home on Thursday November 17, 2016 at 11:00 am. Interment, Calton Cemetery. Donations to Creekside Community Church or the charity of one's choice appreciated by the family.
