Obituary of Marian Broer
BROER - Surrounded by love, Marian Mae (Gritter) Broer, wife of the late Dirk Broer (2007), passed away at St Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Born in Rock Valley, Iowa, December 31, 1932, to Reverend John and Jeannette Gritter. At age 5, Marian moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she spent a happy childhood. She immigrated with her family to Southern Ontario as a teen when her father was commissioned with starting area churches. As a committed member of the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church, she was involved in many organizations and activities. Mom was a life-long learner, always willing to help, and was a wonderful listener, accepting of others in a quiet, loving manner. She valued connections made with people over her decades of volunteer service at church and in area health organizations.
Loving mother to Nancy and Jeff Robinson, Judy and Murray Sluys, Case and Janice Broer, Steve and Lorraine Broer, Carol Broer and husband Ron Galloway. Predeceased by daughter Janet and grandchildren Keith and Rachel Hunsperger (1991) and son-in-law Doug. Mom delighted in her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and prayed for them daily.
Predeceased by siblings Cliff, Gordon, Nelson, Will, Nelma ("Mick"), and Willaine.
Survived by Jim and Edie Gritter, Gerarda and Walter Zylstra, Josephine and Andy VanDyk, Ed and Thea Broer, Tilly and Don Stafford, Harry and Hilda Broer, and Dora and Norman Haaksma, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Friday, January 15 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery, followed by funeral service at 11:00 am at the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church.
