Obituary of Esther Humphrey

Humphrey, at London Health Science Centre-University Campus on Monday, October 6, 2008. Esther Humphrey of London and formerly R.R.1, Aylmer in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late Robert Edgar Humphrey(1991). Loving mother of Kenneth Humphrey and wife Cathy of Iona Station, James Humphrey and wife Marie of Rodney, Dr. Jean Skillman and husband Dr. William Nickling of Cambridge, Ruth and husband Dr. John Hannigan of Toronto and Nancy and husband Dr. Dennis Brown of Toronto. Dear sister of Gerturde Waldie, Helen Schwarz and Beatrice Axford. She will be sadly missed by 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Lynne Laidlaw. Born in Malahide Township on October 7, 1915 daughter of the late George Adam and Maud (Phelphs) Laidlaw. Esther was a retired teacher and farmer in Malahide Township. She was the first female Director of the Elgin County Soil and Crop Improvement Association, a member of the Elgin Federation of Agriculture, the Chimo Unit at St. Paul's United Church and the Women's Institute. She was also an accomplished pianist. Friends may call at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Cremation will follow with burial in the Aylmer Cemetery.
