Obituary of John Wilson

Wilson: John Lamont of Aylmer passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Elgin Manor one day short of his 89th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Phyllis Margaret (Thomson) Wilson(1987). John was born on March 20, 1925, the youngest son of the late John(1949) and Eva (Peckham)1971 Wilson. He was predeceased by brothers Ray(1956), Kenneth(1998) and sister Helen Lampman(1983). Survived by nieces Dianne Lund and Meribel Nixon John began his working career in the family business: the Aylmer Steam Laundry and Dry Cleaners. This just didn't work out and he tried a few other jobs until he started with Peter McLay in his jewellery store. They were together until Peter sold his business. They were not just workmates, they were very good friends and had a common interest: antique vehicles. In his youth, John was a Scout and later held the position of a Scout Leader for 30 years. The St. Thomas Field and Naturalist Club held his attention and spare time for many years. He was their Treasurer for 10 years. Then he purchased a 1930 Model A Ford. This vehicle gave John many, many hours of enjoyment.... from cleaning, polishing, tinkering, replacing worn parts, fine tuning and just driving. The car and John were seen in many parades and activities, not just in Aylmer, but in neighbouring communities within an hour drive. That vehicle won many awards and was John's pride and joy! John will be missed by his buddies at the coffee shop and all his many, many friends. Friends may call at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Friday 7-9 p.m. where a funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to any charity of your choice. Interment Aylmer Cemetery, where John will rest with Phyllis, the love of his life. Condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com
