Obituary of William Shackelton

Shackelton, William Grose Quietly passing away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in the same home in which he was born, March 11, 1929, "Bill" in his 84th year, is at rest after a ten year struggle with multiple myeloma. Cherished and loved by his wife Norma (Gilbert) Shackelton, of 57 years and fondest memories by his fine example, children, Bonnie Shackelton-Verbuyst, Penny (Roy) Vankemenade and Michael (Brandy) Shackelton. Proud grandfather to Brandie (Jason) Geerts, Tory, Tyler and Trevor Marr, Grace, Lucy and Audrey Shackelton. Great-grandfather to Ethan and Brody Geerts. Dear brother to Betty Dance, Carol (Jim) Sheils, Linda Brower and Wanda (Andy) Derewlany. Predeceased by his parents Maurice and Stella Shackelton, sister Jean Putnam, brothers Jerry and Cliff Shackelton, and brother-in-law Raymond Dance. Lovingly remembered by in-laws, Bill Putnam, Ethel Shackelton, Marion and Lloyd Sandham as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. His thoughts always centred on the farm life, with dairying, cash cropping, and custom combining , keeping busy and active until health threatened his last few years. He was a faithful member of the Harrietsville-Mossley United Church, serving on the boards, and a 64 year member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows Hope Lodge #69. Serving on the South Dorchester Public School Board, the Elgin County Milk Committee and the former Otter-Dorchester Insurance Company. He was respected and well known in the area. Visitation will be held at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral. The members of Hope Lodge will conduct a memorial service on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. Private Family interment at Dorchester-Union Cemetery.
