Livestream available here

Hunt, Jean Eleanor of Aylmer passed away at Terrace Lodge on Monday, September 25, 2023 in her 95th year. Loving wife of over 66 years of the late George Frederick Hunt (2016). They were the cherished parents of 5 children : Diane Park (Gord) of Fingal, Debra Wilson (James) of Springford, Brian Hunt (Shelley) of Cambridge, Don Hunt (Wilma) of Waterloo and Keith Hunt (Karen) of Aylmer. Special Grandmother to her 18 Grandchildren and 24 Great-Grandchildren. Family get togethers were always a loud, lively, joyous occasions. Born in Toronto in 1929, she was the only child of William Irwin Smith and Edna Pearl (Smith). At the age of 12, Jean and her Mother moved to Sparta to live with Jean's Grandparents while her Father served overseas during the war. Upon his return, the family settled in New Sarum where she helped her Mother as a telephone operator for the Yarmouth Rural Telephone Company. Jean and George dated while attending Aylmer High School and were married in 1950. They soon moved into their small house on Davis Ave. where they lived for almost 65 years. Jean started piano lessons when she was 8 years old (the start of a life-long love of music). She began her career as organist for St. Paul's United Church in Aylmer in 1949 and retired 45 years later. Over the years Jean accompanied many musicians (young and old) for performances, auditions, concerts and music festivals. She also played the piano and organ for countless weddings and funerals. Jean had a quick sense of humour and a keen sense of fun. She loved to write articles based upon her experiences with family and her work. She would prepare humorous skits and poems for any special occasion. In 1993 she was named Aylmer's Citizen of the Year, honouring her for many years of community involvement. In their retirement George and Jean travelled throughout the world and made special time for their grandchildren, taking each on fondly remembered trips and outings like Santa's Village. They proudly attended every graduation and wedding that they were able. Visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral will take place at the funeral home on Friday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. Donations to Terrace Lodge Comforts of Home(cheques payable to the County of Elgin) or to the Alzheimer Society.
