Obituary of Whitney Young

It is with immense sadness that the family of Whitney Young announce her untimely passing.

Whitney Michelle Young (36) of Aylmer, passed away peacefully at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital in the early hours of April 28th, 2025, just 10 days shy of her 37th birthday. She was surrounded by family who loved her deeply, while the other half of her loving family waited on the other side with open arms, to carefully guide her as she embarks on her soul’s next journey.

Whitney was born on May 9th, 1988, in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. In her almost 37 years on this earth, Whitney accomplished some remarkable achievements. The most notable of which include ranking second place in figure skating at a national level, as well as skating with some of the top figure skaters in the world. But above all, her greatest and most outstanding achievement was being a mother and raising her beautiful, kindhearted son, Luca.

Whitney was a free-spirit who loved all animals, especially cats. She was a literal work of art, as she collected many pieces all over her body in the form of tattoos. She was sarcastic and playful, she loved as deeply as she was loved in return, always had a quick witted response, and possessed the ability to make you laugh until you cried. As we are left with tears today, we will hold these memories close to our hearts, and remember all of the good times we shared with her.

Devoted, loving mother of Luca. Beloved daughter of Sharon. Cherished sister of Kaitlynn, Kristin (James), and Stefan (Stephane). Adored niece of Geoff, and dear aunt of Jude and Eva. Whitney is predeceased by her other treasured family members, which include her father, Doug Young, and grandparents Morley and Mervie Adams. She will be forever missed by family, friends, especially Whitney’s best friend, Heather, and all of the lives she’s touched with her infectious laughter, compassion and beautiful heart.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and special thanks to Dr. Cieslak, Dr. Thomas and the incredible ICU team at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. The care and compassion they provided to Whitney and her family during such a devastating time was absolutely immeasurable. The family would also like to say a very special thank you to their close family friend, Zev, who has always been more like family.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Whitney will be held at a later date to be determined. Share memories or condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com
