Obituary of Joan Hart

Hart, Joan Favoretta (nee Wood) Passed away at her residence, People Care Hilltop Manor Cambridge on Saturday, April, 29, 2017 in her 87th year. She was a longtime resident of Aylmer. Beloved and devoted wife of the late Grant Hart (December 8, 2016).Mother of two dearly loved sons, Perry Grant Hart, of Kanata, Ontario and Doran George Hart, of Cambridge, Ontario. She leaves a beloved daughter-in-law, Laurie, wife of Doran and six grandchildren, Jessica (Thayne) and twins, Brittany (Wayne) and Tyler, of Cambridge, Ontario and Connor and twins, Shelby and Rylan (RJ) of Kanata, Ontario, as well as great-granddaughter, Livia. She was predeceased by her mother Joan Alexandria (nee Roberts) in 1962 and father George Wood in 1965. Predeceased by her twin sister Elizabeth Stone and brother-in-law Dennis Stone. She also leaves her sister-in-law Olive Lundy and her brother-in-law Dr. Donald Edward (Ted) Hart and his wife Barbara. Joan is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Joan enjoyed a varied career in business as Assistant to the President of the Wallace Barns Spring Mfg. Co., a well-known Hamilton company, for seven years and then moved to become Assistant to the Vice-President of Firestone Inc. where she met Grant, who was working in the Sales and Marketing Dept. Within a year of their first date, Joan and Grant were married in 1957 and so began their long and happy life together. After their marriage Joan made a change in her career and became the Assistant to the Registrar, McMaster University, Hamilton until 1961 when their first child was born. She was the active co-owner of a tire and automotive dealership in Ottawa with her husband, Grant. Joan was a charter member of the Women's Business Network of Ottawa. During her lifetime she was a member of the Dundas Valley Golf and Country Club, the Burlington Country Club, the Edmonton Golf and Country Club and the Aylmer Curling Club. Her interests extended to the political field and she was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. Joan was an active member of the United Church of Canada, serving in the work of the United Church in Hamilton, Burlington, Edmonton, Oshawa and in Aylmer. She was a Sunday School Teacher for 16 years and the leader of the Explorer Group of Ryerson United Church, Hamilton for 10 years and acted as a pianist for these groups. Grant and Joan were also Presidents of the Ryerson Church Couples Club. When Joan moved to Aylmer, she immediately became involved in the United Church Group activities, (UCW) St. Paul's United Church and became leader of the Chimo Unit there. She was a member of the official Board of St. Paul's United Church, and several years on the Lunch/Hospitality Committee of the UCW. She retired to Aylmer with her husband in 1988 and resided there until early this year when she moved to Cambridge to be close to her son. Joan was a compassionate, caring person and a friend to all she met. She contributed to many varied charities, including the Cancer Society, the United Way, the Heart and Stroke Fund and the area hospitals. She and Grant loved to travel and enjoyed many happy times on their trips to Europe, the United States, Hawaii, Greece, Great Britain, Mexico, Spain, Portugal and several island holidays such as Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Barbados and Aruba, to name a few of their favourites. The Funeral Service will be held at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
